Hacking to Improve Quality Healthcare.

What is the best gift you can give to an individual; toffees, toys, just name them. But come to think of it, have you thought of quality health care - the best to give out as a gift. When an individual has life, surely he has everything. But pause for a second; is access to quality health care accessible, and how affordable is it? The question goes on and on!
Questions like this has been evolving around the world and researchers, institutions and government have been putting efforts together for solutions. One of a kind is MERCK, a leading science and technology company in health care, life science and performance materials.

Slated on 26th - 28th August 2016, was a MERCK event dubbed "Health Hack". Health Hack is a competition which  brings together social entrepreneurs from dynamic backgrounds to tackle issues of health on four key areas, namely:
  1. Maternal and Reproductive Health.
  2. Connectivity and access to Healthcare.
  3. Non-Communicable Diseases.
  4. Infectious Diseases.
The Hack Health event hosted by Impact Hub in Accra with sponsorship from MERCK brought together one hundred and seventeen young social entrepreneurs, forming teams of twenty - six. At the end of  a 48 hours competition, every team presents its idea to a jury and the best team with realistic and excellent idea is been awarded an office space for six months.
Ebenezer Owusu Acheampong

Ebenezer Owusu Acheampong; the deputy head of team Mental Health Advocate shared his idea that ensures quality healthcare. "My team have people in the rural areas as its core focus, because we find a huge gap in accessing quality healthcare from the urban - rural perspective". He said.

In bid to address this issue, the team came up with "N-Connect", a module that will connect nurses and health practitioners to people in the rural communities. The N-Connect module will work in three main areas that is:
Accessibility: quality healthcare will be made accessible to target group by providing door to door services and also making health center available to the community.
Connectivity: Health practitioners will be connected to rural communities to provide health solutions in lieu of people(target group) chasing remedies regarding their health.
Partnership: In impacting positively on society and to make this brilliant idea work, there is the need to involve assemblies and district to understand the N-Connect module and also get involve.

"This Idea will not only improve quality healthcare, but a useful tool in achieving sustainable development goal 1(zero poverty) and 3(Improve access to healthcare) by 2030 and also reduce rate of unemployment, whilst unemployed nurses will be engage". He added.

This team believes when given the support and if they should win the Health Hack competition, will improve quality healthcare in Ghana and beyond.
