Ghana Goes Inlusion

Education is a human right and not a privilege. One needs no requirement to assess it and it is not meant for a category of people. It is for us all. Ghana's education system is riddled with challenges and children with special needs tend to suffer more.

On Tuesday 3rd May 2016; Ghana stood on its feet to break a new dawn. Enough of the discrimination! Says Mother Ghana. Ghana launched its first inclusive education policy defines the path of Government for the education of all children with special needs. The policy is the outcome of series of discussions and consultations between stakeholders in the education sector and non  state organizations such as UNICEF.

The Inclusive education policy rests on four main pillars namely;

  • Adapting systems to respond to needs of every child.
  • Building child friendly schools.
  • Promoting the development of a well - informed and and trained human resource cadre for quality delivery of education.
  • Ensuring sustainability of inclusive education policy.

The launch which took place at Alisa Hotel in Accra brought many hands on deck. Present at the gathering include Traditional Leaders, human rights advocates and stakeholders. Young people were not left out, pupils of Dzorwulu Special school in their dancing regalia, showed their talent through dancing. Some embers of the Children and Youth in Broadcasting - Curious Minds also nailed the event with a sketch performance titled - Case for Inclusion. The performance highlights the need to give all types of children access education.

Also, Ms. Rashnan Murtaza - Deputy Director (UNICEF Ghana) shared plights of some children and how they [Children] have been supported. Following that was launch of the policy by Mr. Jacob Kor and Ms. Rushnan Murtaza.

I reckon that this policy will serve it's purpose for the well - being of children and the betterment of mother Ghana.
Inclusion for All!
All means All!
Ms. Rushnan and Mr. Jacob
