Journey to The East - "Ayenya No.1" (Part I)

Over the years, issues of women and girls empowerment has been flooding social media and the
media itself. This same issue boiled at the just ended 7th African conference on sexual health and
rights, hosted in Accra by Curious Minds - a youth led advocacy group pushing for young
people's agenda.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has also done a great job with regards to
women and girls empowerment. Other international organisations and individuals are also
contributing their quota; one out of many is the Save Our Future Organisation.
Advocacy has paid good to the efforts of all these advocates and we can boldly hit our chest and
say; indeed the message has gone down clear and far. But there's more room for improvement just
as the teacher always tells the student.

Members of Save Our Future organisation have been working hard in their capacity to lay to rest,

plights of young people at "Ayenya No.1" - a community in Eastern part of Greater Accra.

In 2012, they started their project with the focus of helping humanity in this community. Issues they tackled was around the globe of Teenage Pregnancy, Education and access to clean and potable water. With the help of Human Capital and Social Development International (HUCASDEVI) - a humanitarian group; they were able to win a borehole project to help the community access good water. The project is currently underway.

Orphan Aid, a Non - Governmental Organization based in the community also spearhead the agenda of building a school for the community. But guess what; the effort and support given to young people especially the girls; in this community is washed away.

Though the situation is not encouraging and nothing to write home about; Save our Future still
holds on to their dream of helping the community develop. The rest of the story remains untold.

Stay tuned for more!
