For the past two decades, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disability (IDPD) has been marked annually on 3 December globally and the theme for this years' international day is: "Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want".
This is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals targeted and indicated that the UN member states are expected to use in framing their agendas and political policies over the next fourteen years.
In The heart of Compassionate Love - a non-profit organization with the agenda of promoting a friendly and inclusive society took thence to engage over five hundred persons with different deformity today at the Efua Sutherland Children's' Park in Accra, to mark IDPD.
On the sidelines of the event, Mr. Stephen Tikai Dombo, lecturer and center manager at the Accra Rehabilitation center encouraged all persons living with disability to frown upon freakish statements from society and that, they are not what people say they are. He further explained that the rehabilitation center is meant for them to be equipped with skills that will earn them money for good living.
"People say you are beggars but if you can make good use of the Accra rehabilitation center, you will change that mentality. Begging will not end you well! Come to the center and learn something, we have made provisions to accommodate people who want to learn tailoring, visual arts and many vocation". He said.
The renowned social worker assured persons with disability of job opportunities within and outside Government sector after completing a three months course at the center.
